An Enchanting Variety of Different Wedding Laces

Our South Florida wedding dress store houses a multitude of magnificent gowns made from many different luxurious fabrics. A very popular choice is lace. Sometimes it covers the entire dress, and other dresses use it for lovely decorative accents.

Angelus Bridal & Formals deals with lots of materials on a daily basis, but we realize that many women are new to the terms involved with fashion. Today we would like to explain a few of the different types of lace that you may find on bridal gowns.

One definition of lace is "a netlike ornamental fabric made of threads by hand or machine." This delicate fabric was once made with linen, silk, gold, or silver threads. Today, it is most often made with cotton thread.

Chantilly

This type of lace originated in Chantilly, France. The dainty features will incorporate flowers and ribbons on a plain net background. It gives a dress a romantic look and feel, and is often used for sleeves and overlays.

Alencon

Also a French style, it has a distinct floral pattern that will be outlined with corded details. The 3-dimensional effect that it gives is very popular this wedding season. You will often find it decorated with sequins or beaded embellishments.

Guipure

This is a heavier lace that can look similar to embroidery or macrame. It is cotton-based and features interwoven patterns. You will often find it on structured silhouettes.

Honiton

This is another type of Guipure lace which joins together round, floral, and leaf motifs. A dress made with this will most likely have an old-fashioned, regal look.

Eyelet

The sweet feel that eyelet lends to a bridal gown is great for a summer wedding. It has a traditional, heirloom quality, incorporating scalloped edges and cotton fabric.

Schiffli

Most often machine-made, this lace is actually a type of embroidery. It is lightweight with a very delicate look. It is beautiful as an overlay or for edging.

Lace is just one of the many enchanting fabrics that adorn the gowns in our Pompano Beach bridal salon. When you visit Angelus Bridal & Formals for your shopping appointment, tell us the types of materials that are your favorite and we will start from there. In addition, our talented consultants will be able to point you in a few directions toward similar fashions. Together, we will find the perfect wedding dress that was made especially for you.

How to Choose Your Wedding Shoes

One very important piece of your wedding day fashion is the pair of shoes that you decide to wear. You not only want them to look fabulous with the gown that you found at our South Florida wedding dress store, but they need to be comfortable enough to wear all day long too. The following tips from Angelus Bridal & Formals should help you to accomplish both of those things.

Comfort is key

As we mentioned before, looking good is an important quality for your wedding shoes, but if they're not comfortable, you won't be able to wear them for very long. On your wedding day, you will need to wear those shoes for a very long time.

Stick with a heel height that you are used to. If you don't normally wear five-inch heels, today is not the day to start. Make sure that you have necessary things to add extra comfort, like heel cushions, non-slip insoles, and padded heel grips. No one will see them, but you'll be very glad they are there.

Buy shoes right away

As soon as you have decided on the dress, shoes need to be found as quickly as possible. It may take you some time to find exactly the right pair, or they may even need to be special-ordered. You will want to have them available at every dress fitting so that the hem ends up the correct length. Find shoes early so that you have them on hand.

Break them in

Another reason to get your shoes early on is so that you can break them in. We don't mean wear them out and about. Occasionally wear them around the house so that they are not stiff on the wedding day. This is also a great way to find out if any part of the shoe might cause blisters and take care of that problem before it can happen.

Quality before budget

Since you will be wearing and moving around in your shoes for hours on the wedding day, this is not an area to skimp on price. Natural materials form easier around your feet, are more comfortable, and last longer than synthetic materials. Don't choose a cheap pair that won't hold up for you the entire day. Instead, make sure the shoes you deicde on are made of high-quality materials.

Shop late in the day

Trying on shoes after a day full of activity will give you the best fit. Everyone's feet swell a little throughout the day, and trying on shoes later in the day will be most like the fit you will have after all of the wedding activity and a night full of dancing.

Keep a backup pair

We don't expect you to buy two pair of your wedding shoe, but in the case of a broken heel or some other similar mishap, you will want to have a spare pair with the same heel size available. It's also wise to have an even more comfortable pair of flats for the ride home after the reception.

Have some fun

Your shoes are the perfect place to incorporate some of your personality. With a short dress, it will be apparent for all to see. Long dresses deserve a fun shoe too. The occasional glimpse of your fantastic shoes from underneath the skirt will keep a smile on your face. You can add a pop of color with shoes, or even have them custom painted to match your wedding theme.

The shoes your choose to go with your wedding dress need to help you make it comfortably through the entire day and night. The bridal consultants at our Pompano Beach wedding dress store can help you to decide which types of shoes may work the best with your bridal gown. Another step in the wedding fashion process is finding the other amazing accessories that you will wear. When you are ready for that step, Angelus Bridal & Formals is here to help you do it beautifully.

6 Popular 2016 Wedding Trends We Love

Every year brings along with it trends that many brides gravitate toward. Angelus Bridal & Formals loves seeing how much things change, yet still stay very similar. Some trends come and go, only to come back again, while others are timeless.

Our South Florida bridal gown store sees many amazing trends in wedding fashions and decor. Not all of them are for everyone, but they are definitely great inspiration when you are deciding on your own personal wedding style.

Wedding Dresses with V-necks and Low Backs

Showing a bit of extra skin seems to be very popular this season. Some brides choose to wear a deep V-neck in the front, while others lean toward wedding dresses with very low backs, or backs with elegant cutouts. A stunning look straight off the runway.

Drone Photographs

The point of view that can be achieved in your wedding photos by having a drone record footage is amazing. It's perfect for getting pictures of everyone in your wedding, including guests, all in one shot. Drones are great for capturing a video of the wedding processional. Some of our favorite pictures have the bride on the ground with the skirt of her bridal gown elegantly flared out around her.

Floral Patterns

Beautiful blooms are showing up on more than the table decor and bouquets. Bridesmaid dresses adorned with floral patterns bring a beautiful burst of lively color to a wedding party.

Naked Cakes & Dessert Bars

We have seen wedding cakes with a lack of frosting for a couple of years now, but it's still a popular option for many couples. These "naked" cakes either have no icing at all or just a very small amount, opting for fruit as decoration and a touch of sweetness. Others choose to offer a buffet of a variety of different desserts, making it hard to pick only one.

Metallics & Shimmer

Metallic colors are popping up on everything from invitations to table covers to icing to fashion! Brides seem to be leaning toward more neutral shades with a shiny accent in silver, gold, or rose gold. Glitter and sequins also make for a shimmery effect.

Classic Cocktails

It is still fun to have a signature cocktail created specifically for your wedding, giving it a special themed name. Lately we are also seeing many receptions and cocktail hours pulling out the classics: Old Fashioned, Moscow Mules, and Manhattans.

You will find fabulous fashions at our Bridal Salon in Pompano Beach that fit perfectly into the latest trends. We also have a store full of gorgeous gowns at Angelus Bridal & Formals in every size, shape, style, and color so that there is sure to be something for every woman. Find your favorites and start a brand new trend of your own.

How to Handle Rain on Your Wedding Day

No one wants it to happen, but rain on your wedding day is always a possibility. If you are having an outdoor wedding, you really need to make plans just in case this happens to you. Your gorgeous hairstyle, perfect makeup, and that exquisite wedding dress that you bought at our South Florida bridal boutique need to be kept dry.

Angelus Bridal & Formals has a few ideas for you on how to keep the rain at bay and still enjoy this special day.

Remain calm.

Number one, a little, or even a lot, of rain does not have to spoil your wedding day. You may be a bit disappointed if everything was supposed to take place outside, but don't waste too much time being upset about it. Remember that old saying, "Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain!

Actually, some cultures look at a rainy wedding as a sign of good luck. It symbolizes fertility and cleansing. Your entire day doesn't need to be ruined because it's wet outside. As long as you are married to the one that you love when it's all over, then your wedding was a success.

Always have a plan.

If you thought about the possibility of rain during your wedding planning process, then you should have a few backup plans in place to keep everything running smoothly. Have an indoor spot reserved for a backup, or a tent rented to keep the weather off of all of your guests. Today you can rent tents that have elegant walls with windows, and they are more like a sheltered oasis than simply something to cover your head. Even if the rain stays away, a tent for an outdoor wedding is still a nice touch in case anyone wants to get out of the sun.

Find adorable umbrellas that match your wedding colors or theme, and have enough for everyone in the wedding party. You may even want to have umbrellas available for all of the guests if you have a crowd that will brave a light rain. These will make great favors, and can be returned if they are not necessary. (Just don't remove the tags until you are sure you'll be using them.)

Keep yourself dry.

Before the ceremony, take precautions to keep everyone's wedding fashions dry. Keep everything zipped up tight in garment bags until you arrive at your destination to get ready. Ladies, you will want to take extra care to keep long gowns up off of the ground.

If you need to go outside for photos after the rain has stopped, lay down a tarp or something similar to walk on. Your photographer should be creative enough to keep it out of the pictures.

Have fun with it!

Take this unfortunate turn of events and roll with it. Getting upset isn't going to make the rain stop, it will just ruin your day. Choose, instead, to make a few memories that wouldn't be possible without the rain. If you don't mind getting wet after the ceremony, get out in it and have your photographer take some amazing photos. Those matching umbrellas can really come in handy here.

Remember to protect your wedding dress if you do decide to get out in the rain. Find out what will happen if the material gets wet, and keep any areas that may be ruined out of the water.

Don't let anything ruin your special day. A little bit of pre-planning and a positive attitude will assure that you can handle anything that comes your way. Angelus Bridal & Formals knows that the most important thing about any wedding is the fact that your are a "Mr. & Mrs." at the end of the day. As long as that happens, you can deal with all the rest.

9 Ways to Make Mom Feel Extra Special on Your Wedding Day

Mother's Day will be here soon. This year it falls on Sunday, May 8, 2016. We adore taking care of the mothers of our brides in this South Florida bridal salon every bit as much as taking care of the brides themselves. In honor of this very important holiday, today's blog is dedicated to ideas on how to make your mother feel extra-special on your wedding day.

1. Make your "something borrowed" something of hers.

It will make Mom feel good to know that you are holding something near and dear to you that belongs to her as you walk down the aisle. That something you borrow will have even more meaning to her than it did before when you return it after the wedding.

2. Give her a special wedding day keepsake.

Another option is to buy something brand new to gift to your mother in honor of the occasion. An embroidered handkerchief to catch her happy tears would be lovely. Another idea is an elegant frame to hold your favorite picture of the two of your from your childhood.

3. Spend an entire day shopping for her dress.

Your mother deserves to look gorgeous on your special day. Make the shopping trip an event for the two of you. Start with brunch, then head to your appointment at Angelus Bridal & Formals so that we can treat your mother to an afternoon of pampering and fabulous fashion. After your shopping trip, go to a coffee shop to discuss wedding details together, plan a mini spa day, or go see a movie. Anything that you know you'll both enjoy.

4. Say cheese!

Display photos of Mom from her wedding day, or use them in a slideshow at the reception. Be sure to ask the photographer to get a few special shots of just the two of you. Maybe you could even recreate a photo from her wedding day or a favorite childhood picture.

5. Reserve special transportation.

If your ceremony and reception are in different locations and traveling is involved, you will need to arrange transportation for yourself and the wedding party. Include your parents too. Hire a fancy car for them to ride like royalty in, allowing Mom to make a grand entrance.

6. Ask Mom to get ready with you and your bridesmaids.

Before the ceremony, a lot of fun things happen in the dressing room. Invite your mother to join you and your girls for hair, makeup, and manicures. She will love spending that time with you as well as getting the chance to watch you enjoy it.

7. Ask her to walk you down the aisle.

This tradition is often reserved for your father or another special man in your life. There is no reason why your mother can't escort you down the aisle along with your dad. If he isn't in the picture anymore, then she is the perfect candidate to fill this position.

8. Dance with her.

The bride usually has a dance with her father, and the groom dances with his mother. Add a mother-daughter dance to the mix and share a bit of the spotlight with this special lady. Another nice gesture is to invite all of the mothers at your reception to hit the dance floor with their children.

9. Write down how much you appreciate your mother.

Surprise Mom with a special note in your wedding program, or write a sentimental card to be delivered at the wedding. A hand-written thank you after the wedding weekend is also something she would really appreciate.

The wedding day is all about the bride and groom, but there are a lot of wonderful people that have played a part in you getting to this day. Little gestures go a long way in making them feel as important as they are to you. Whether your wedding happens to be close to Mother's Day or not, the gestures above will make any mother very happy.

Don't forget to make an appointment to come in with Mom to try on all of the exquisite gowns that we have for sale in our Pompano Beach bridal store. We carry lots of different styles, sizes, and colors to choose from so that she can find something wonderful to wear to your wedding. Angleus Bridal & Formals will make sure of it.

Helpful Fashion Tips For Wedding Guests

The bride and groom have the type of clothing that they want to wear decided upon, but sometimes wedding guests are a bit unsure of what is expected of them. Even if the invitation clearly states a type of dress code, guests may not always be clear on exactly what each dress code entails.

Angelus Bridal & Formals wants to make sure that everyone at your wedding is completely comfortable and look their very best. Today's blog defines the most common dress codes for you and offers a few helpful fashion tips.

Many different things can help you to decipher the type of clothing that is acceptable to wear to a wedding. The formality of the invitation is often a good indicator. You can also take cues from the type of venue the wedding is taking place at and the time of day of the ceremony and reception. Afternoon weddings are generally a lot less formal than an evening function. Below you will find a few of the most common "dress codes" explained.

Casual

This is for the weddings that are a bit more laid back and relaxed, generally taking place during the day. Men can get away with wearing a nice pair of dress pants and a button-down shirt or polo. No tie is necessary. Women can wear a nice dress, or opt for a skirt or pants with a pretty blouse. If it is an evening wedding, think more business casual.

Semi-formal (aka Dressy Casual)

Men should wear a suit and tie, and women should choose a cocktail dress or a dressy skirt and top.

Beach Formal

The area where the wedding is taking place is very important in this case. Find out if it is directly in the sand or on sturdy ground simply near the water. If everything takes place outdoors, the weather will be a big factor in your clothing choices. Linen pants and shirts are comfortable for men, or some type of summer suit. Khakis work well. No tie is necessary, and sandals are perfectly acceptable. The ladies can wear a formal sundress or a tea-length to knee-length dress with flat sandals.

Formal (aka Black Tie Optional)

The bride and groom want you to dress up for this wedding. Men are welcome to wear a tuxedo, but a formal, dark-colored suit and tie work just as well. For the women, a dressy suit, long dress, or formal cocktail-length dress should be worn. The formality of this type of wedding allows women to be a little more dramatic and glamorous with their makeup and hair, as do the next two categories.

Black Tie

This is a very formal affair and almost always an evening event. Men are expected to wear a tuxedo with a black bow tie and cummerbund. Women can bring out their finest evening gown or beautiful cocktail dress for a formal wedding.

White Tie

This is the most formal type of dress code. Men should wear a tuxedo with tails, along with a white bow tie and vest, and if you like, white gloves for dancing are extra special. Women should choose a full-length formal ball gown in darker, neutral shades.

At the end of the day, common sense goes a long way. Use the guidelines above to help you determine what should be acceptable. Another tip is that if you are completely confused by the wedding dress code, simply ask. It's a lot less embarrassing to ask a question than it is to show and look out of place.

Angelus Bridal & Formals is known for our beautiful bridal gowns and bridesmaid dresses, but we also have a marvelous selection of stunning gowns for women attending weddings from formal to white tie. If you would like to take a look at the magnificent dresses that we keep at our South Florida special occasion dress store, call us and make your appointment. We would be happy to help you find something amazing.
