Even when the most meticulous measurements are taken by an expert, it is rare that the wedding dress you ordered will fit your body perfectly. Every woman is built differently, so most likely at least a few alterations will be needed once your bridal gown arrives. Angelus Bridal & Formals has put together some helpful tips to make sure your wedding dress fitting appointment at our South Florida bridal salon goes as smoothly as possible. 

Buy the size you NEED...
NOT  the size you hope to be on the wedding day. This tip pertains more to the wedding dress purchase rather than the fitting, but it's an important point to mention. Many brides think that if they order a bridal gown that is too small, it will encourage them to lose weight before the wedding. The problem is, if they don't lost that weight, then they've got a dress that doesn't fit! A talented seamstress can work magic, but it's much simpler to make a dress smaller than it is to try to make it bigger. Adding too much fabric can drastically change the original look of the dress.

It may help to remind you that no one will be seeing that size tag except for you, so it really doesn't matter what the number on it says. Ignore the number and pick a gown that looks and feels good. Also, if your body isn't necessarily the same size all over, buy to fit the larger part. Once again, it's easier to take part of the dress in than to let it out.

Don't procrastinate. 
As soon as your wedding dress arrives at our wedding dress store in Pompano Beach, get your first fitting scheduled, even if it's a few weeks away. The most convenient times always book up first, so the earlier you book, the better chance you have of getting a time that fits into your schedule. You want the seamstress to have plenty of time to make your alterations without having to rush through it.

Always bring...
the shoes and undergarments that will be worn on the wedding day to every bridal gown fitting. The seamstress will be fashioning the adjustments to fit your body, and even the slightest change could make a huge difference. The size of the heel you have on affects where the hem will fall, and if you use a different bra than the one you had on at the fitting, the bodice of your wedding dress could end up too loose or too tight. 

Move around in the gown.
Before any final alterations are made, move around in the gown to make sure it is comfortable. Walk, sit, even dance a little bit so that any problems with the fit can be addressed right away and you can be your most comfortable on the wedding day.

Bring a helper to the final fitting.
Wedding dresses often require a bit of assistance to get into and your seamstress will know the best ways to get the gown on you and adjusted correctly. Bring someone with you to the final fitting so that they can be instructed on how to help you get ready on the wedding day. Also have someone show your helper how to properly bustle the dress for the wedding reception. Knowing how to do this will save a lot of time and unnecessary stress.

20 Wedding Tips That May Not Have Crossed Your Mind (Part 2)

Last week's blog covered 10 of our 20 Wedding Tips That May Not Have Crossed Your Mind (Part 1), and today our wedding dress store in South Florida will be completing that list with tips #11-20. Even with all of the many wedding planning checklists available, there are still a few things that often slip through the cracks. 

These are things that you probably wouldn't even think about until you've lived through the situation. Your wedding day is most likely something you won't be doing twice (until you're ready to plan a beautiful vow renewal a few years down the road) so Angelus Bridal & Formals is here to point out a few of the things that we have learned from our own experience and those of our lovely brides.   

• Surrender your cell phone to your maid of honor, and suggest that the groom give his to the best man. They will be nearby if you get an important call during the day, and your friends should be able to answer any questions vendors may have, or at least know when the best time is to ask you. You only need the phone in your hand if you want to send your future spouse a sweet message or for the occasional wedding day selfie with your wedding party. Other than that, unplug and enjoy the experience of this special day!
  
  
• Have a button up shirt or robe to wear while you get ready for the ceremony. This will allow you to get dressed when it's time without having to pull a shirt over your head, ruining all the work that went into your hair and makeup.
  
  
• Do not wear socks or a bra while you are getting ready. They can leave marks on your ankles, back, and shoulders that may not go away before it's time to walk down the aisle.
  
  
• Keep straws in your bag to use when you take a drink. This will keep your lipstick from smudging, meaning far fewer touchups.
  
  
• Have snacks and water available for you and your wedding party while you are getting ready, and make sure everyone eats something. It's going to be a long, busy day and you're going to need plenty of energy, and it may be a while before you get to eat again at the reception.
  
  
• Before heading down the aisle, put on hand lotion. This will help the wedding ring to slide on your finger more easily.
  
  
• Once you are down the aisle standing next to your gorgeous groom, turn and look back at your guests to capture a mental picture of this moment and everyone sharing this special day with you.
  
  
• Ask your caterer or wedding planner to make a "to-go" box filled with some of the food items from your reception. It's not unusual for couples to be having so much fun that they don't take the time to sit down and eat. This way you don't miss out on that delicious meal you ordered, and you have something waiting for you later when you realize how hungry you are.
  
  
• If you arranged transportation for the entire wedding party to get to the ceremony and reception, they won't have a car there when it's time to leave. Make sure that you also arrange for them all to get home safely once the event is over.
  
  
• If you used a lot of fresh flower arrangements as decorations for your wedding, that means you will have a lot of arrangements needing a home afterward. If you don't have a large enough wedding party or family to send them home with, consider donating the flowers to a nursing home or hospital to make someone else's day special too.
  
  

The more prepared you are for your wedding day, the better chance you have of avoiding problems that could arise. Even if a few things don't go exactly as you expected, as long as you are married to your true love at the end of the day, then it was a huge success!

20 Wedding Tips That May Not Have Crossed Your Mind (Part 1)

There are lots and lots of things to think of when you are planning a wedding, and thankfully there are also lots of checklists available to help you cover most of your bases. Even so, there will be some things that you won't find on any checklist, but rather from the experience of past brides that have been through it or from an experienced wedding vendor, like the experts at our Pompano Beach bridal boutique. 

We have been through plenty of weddings over the years, so Angelus Bridal has a list of a few helpful things that you may not think of on your own. Once we started writing, the list got a bit long, so this week we'll feature 10 tips for the wedding planning stage, and next week's blog will feature tips that will be helpful on the wedding day. 

• While you are making your list of "must-have" songs for your reception DJ or band, also make a "DO NOT PLAY" list of music you absolutely don't want to hear on your special day.
  
• Show more than one person that will be at the wedding how to bustle your wedding dress. That way you aren't searching for the only person that knows how when you're ready or left trying to "figure it out" at the last minute.
  
• Designate a wedding helper (or a few) that will be in charge of getting important items from the ceremony to the reception, such as gifts, the guest book, extra programs, decorations being used at both venues, etc... This "job" is often overlooked until the last minute.
  
• Designate a post-wedding helper too that will make sure rentals get returned, decorations get picked up, and everything gets to where it needs to be after the reception. If you don't, it will be harder for you to leave at the end of the evening. Also, make sure someone is in charge of getting the wedding gifts to your home, or at least to your hotel room for the night.
  
• Practice walking in your wedding day shoes. Even if it is a heel size that you are used to, you'll want to break them in a little so they won't be stiff and new on the wedding day. Also, walk in them with your bridal gown on so that you will know ahead of time if you need to take any special precautions so as not to snag the heel on your dress.
  
• Practice using the restroom in your bridal gown. Yes, you read that right! As strange as it sounds, some special occasion dresses are difficult to get in and out of a small bathroom or stall. There is a chance you may need help, and it's best to know that before it's an emergency. Sometimes, especially with a very full skirt, it may be easiest to sit down facing the back of the toilet. It may look and feel strange, but if it keeps your dress out of the way, it's worth it!
  
• Rehearse your wedding vows out loud, even if you aren't writing your own. Nerves can get the better of anyone in front of a crowd, but if you've said the words a few times already, it's going to be a lot easier for you to get through them on the wedding day. 
  
• If you have wedding vendors that need to be paid or tipped on the wedding day, organize those payments in labeled envelopes ahead of time. That way you can ask someone you trust, like a maid of honor or best man, to pass them out so you don't have to worry about it while you are celebrating.
  
• Ask the photographer to capture a photo of the entire ceremony room when you walk down the aisle. This not only gives you a lovely shot of the back of your beautiful bridal gown, but also the looks on all of your guests' faces while they watch you walk in!
  
• Plan a private getaway for just the two of you. We aren't talking about the honeymoon, but rather during the wedding celebration. Plan some time into the schedule of the day, either before the reception or at some point during it, to sneak away to a quiet spot and simply enjoy the moment with each other. Your guests can do without you for a little while.

7 Tips for Handling Bridal Shows Like a Pro (Part 2)

Last week our first 3 of 7 Tips for Handling Bridal Shows Like a Pro offered advice for getting signed up and enlisting helpers to join you. Today, the final 4 tips from Angelus Bridal & Formals cover things you need to do the day of the bridal show. 

Power Up
Make sure that you eat something before you get to the bridal show. You will need energy for a day full of browsing. There will most likely be food samples, but probably not enough to fill you up. There will definitely be cake samples (lots of cake samples!) but too many of those on a fairly empty stomach will give you a horrible sugar rush. You might also want to bring along a water bottle so that you can stay hydrated throughout the event too.  

Wear Comfortable Shoes
A huge amount of walking is involved, especially with the really large bridal shows. Often there isn't a lot of seating, so even when you're not walking you may be standing. Wearing comfortable shoes is extremely important. You can still be adorable without having to add heels to your look for something like this. Also, have something on that tells everyone that you are the bride. A lot of shows will give you a "Bride" sticker to wear when you arrive. This lets vendors know who the VIP in your group is that they should be talking to. 

Take Notes
Bring something to take detailed notes on, and if the show allows it, take lots of pictures. You will be seeing and learning about a lot of new ideas, and you don't want to forget the best ones. An easy way to remember your favorite or most interesting wedding vendors is to take notes about them directly onto their brochures or the back of their business card. That way you are sure to not mix them up with someone else. 

Don't Forget to Bring...

• Cash and a Checkbook - The cash is to buy food and drinks because many snack areas don't take cards. The checkbook is for any small vendors you may want to book that do not take credit cards. Some offer discounts for booking on the spot, so if you're sure they are the vendor you want, book them before someone else gets your date. 
• Calendar - You will want to put any appointments you make with vendors in your calendar immediately. That way you don't forget to later or double-book yourself. 
• Wedding Information - If you have a wedding binder, bring it with you. If you are trying to match colors or fabrics, bring along the pictures or swatches you need too. 
• Sticker Labels - Having sticker labels with your information (name, groom's name, phone number, address, email, wedding date) will allow you to sign up for giveaways without having to write down all of that information over and over all day long.  
• Extra Bag - More than likely the show itself or a vendor will be handing out bags to collect the goodies you'll get at different booths. Just in case they don't, bring one with you. If you end up with two, use one bag for important business cards and brochures and the other for vendors you're not as interested in. You can decide what to keep and what to throw away when you get home later.  
• An Open Mind - You may go into the show with ideas about what you want for your wedding, but take a look at everything. You may see a great idea you never thought of. Also, just because a vendor has a bad website, they may be a perfect fit for you in person. 

Last but not least, remember to HAVE FUN! At a bridal show, you, the bride, are the star of the show for the day. 7 Tips for Handling Bridal Shows Like a Pro (Part 1)

Bridal shows can be a very helpful tool for getting a lot of wedding tasks taken care of all in one place. They can be tons of fun too if you go into it prepared. Angelus Bridal & Formals has 7 helpful tips that will allow you get the most out of any bridal show. We'll share the first 3 pre-show tips today, and finish next week with 4 more for show day.  

Pre-Register
Getting signed up early to attend a bridal show means that you will probably receive updates and reminders as the show gets closer. Some shows offer discounts, special gifts, or extra entries into prize drawings for anyone that pre-registers too. 

This also allows you to get inside much quicker on show day because you won't have to bother with registration once you get there. Sign up with a temporary email address that you have created especially for wedding correspondence. This way, once the wedding is over, you don't have a lot of vendors clogging up your regular email with unnecessary information you no longer need. 

Have a Plan
Do a little research on the vendors that will be attending the bridal show before it happens. It will give you a good idea of which wedding vendors you are most interested in so that you can visit their booths first. Know exactly which things you still need for your wedding and take care of those early. If there is time left over when you are done, visit some of the other booths that didn't make your list. They may surprise you.  

Have a list of questions prepared for each vendor so that you can get the answers you need right off the bat. There will most likely be a lot of people trying to talk to a vendor all at once, so your time with them may be very limited. If you decide that you want to know more about them, schedule an appointment to talk to them in greater detail at a later date. Check the bridal show's website to see if they have a map available so that you can plan a route, and time your visits so that you don't miss any interesting events the show has planned.

Don't Go Alone
You will be getting a lot of information all at once, so you will want to ask a few helpful people to go with you. Grooms are welcome and often encouraged to attend bridal shows of today. If he is into the wedding decision-making, it could be a fun and informative day to spend together. 

Bridesmaids are another option for your bridal show back up, and if you have parents that want to be involved, you might bring one or more of them too. Your "helpers" for the day can assist you by keeping track of brochures you pick up, signing you up for giveaways while you chat with vendors, and offering opinions when you need them.

Romantic Touches To Add To Your Wedding

Valentine's Day is just around the corner and love is in the air even more than usual. That could also be due to the fact that February is coined as both "National Weddings Month" and "Creative Romance Month." In honor of all of these things, as well as your upcoming wedding, Angelus Bridal & Formals has a few simple ways to add some extra romantic touches to your special day. 

Hidden Messages
Surprise your soon-to-be spouse by having a special message engraved inside their wedding ring. There's not a lot of room in there, but enough to get a personal message across. It can be a sweet saying such as, "Together Forever" or the initials of something longer like the title of "your song" or a phrase like "Love At First Sight." (LAFS) Even though you will rarely, if ever, have your wedding rings off of your fingers, the two of you will always know that those special words are there. 

Love Letters
A beautiful and sweet thing that you can do for each other is to put in writing how the other one makes you feel, along with your hopes, dreams, and promises for your future together. On the wedding morning while you are getting ready for the ceremony, have your maid of honor/ best man deliver that letter for your future spouse to read. We have even heard of some couples meeting on either side of a door (before they've seen each other for the first time) and reading these letters out loud to each other. Either way, have that waterproof mascara ready, or better yet, try to do this part before your makeup is done!  

Private Photo Session
If you don't feel like you express your feelings well in writing (although your future spouse would love and cherish anything you wrote down!) you might consider having some photos secretly taken to surprise your fiance with. It could be a few new photos for them to frame and show you off at work, or you could be a bit more risque and try a boudoir photo session. Of course, those would be for their eyes only!  

Candlelight
There's something extremely romantic about a room lit mainly by candles. Turn the lights down in the reception room and place lots of candles on all of the tables, each adding a beautiful, warm glow to the entire space. You could also choose to have a candlelight ceremony, either anytime indoors or outside at dusk or early evening. A few romantically scented candles lit in the room where you are getting ready is a great way to get you in the mood before the day begins too. 

Alone Time
The wedding day is all about the two of you, but there will be a lot of guests wanting to share your attention. Plan some alone time for just the two of you. Right after the ceremony or at some point during the reception, sneak away for a few minutes and take that time to celebrate together. You might even want to have a sweetheart table for just the bride and groom instead of sitting at a head table with the rest of your wedding party. 

Weddings are already romantic, but adding a few extra details here and there can make it even more memorable and special for the two of you. 6 Simple New Year's Resolutions For Anyone Planning A Wedding

A lot goes into planning a wedding, and many couples let it overwhelm them. This should be a fun and exciting time full of memories, not stress. For everyone out there planning a wedding right now, Angelus Bridal & Formals has a few ideas for New Year's Resolutions you can add to your list that may make the wedding planning process a little easier. 

Work as a Team
A husband and wife are an incredible team, and that teamwork doesn't have to wait until after you say "I do" to begin. Make a promise to each other that you will tackle all of those wedding planning tasks together. They will get done twice as quickly, plus there is a better chance both of your styles will be represented in the final look and feel of the event. 

The people in your wedding party and family members that you can rely on are wonderful additions to your team too. There are lots of things that need to get done before the big day, and the more hands helping, the less you have to worry about. If they're willing to help, let them. 

Trust Your Vendors
Another important part of your wedding planning team are the vendors that you hire. Even though you may not have known them before you started planning the wedding, these people are professionals and know what they are doing. If you didn't like their work or had a strange feeling about them, you probably would have hired someone else. Let yourself trust your vendors' suggestions. You don't have to allow them to change your mind about things that are important to you, but they will have some great ideas that are worth considering. 

Have an Organization Plan
The more organized you are, the easier it will be to get everything done. Keep every bit of your wedding information and ideas all in one place. Have a binder put together with important contact information, brochures, magazine photos you like, and other paper items, and keep that binder in a place that you and your fiance always have access to it. Also keeping all of that information in a shared file on your computer or in a wedding app makes it easy for you to add to and access the information you need no matter where you are, plus there is no chance of misplacing an app.  

Don't Procrastinate
Strive to tackle a set amount of tasks each day. When you have free time, check that binder to see if there are any quick items on your to-do list that can be accomplished. Multi-task when possible, like stuffing and addressing invitations while you watch TV. 

One big item on your to-do list is making the guest list. You may dread having to pick and choose who will be invited to your wedding, but know that once that list is complete, you will know the size of the wedding you are planning for and be able to make a lot of other decisions. Every time you mark an item off of your list, it's going to make another item on that list easier to accomplish.   

Stick to Your Budget 
Promise yourself to stick as closely as possible to the wedding budget you decided on. Nothing can ruin the memory of a wonderful wedding faster than a stack of bills waiting after the celebration that will take you much longer to pay off than you planned for. 

Creativity, imagination, and talented wedding vendors can create an exquisite wedding at an affordable price. After all, the goal of the day is to marry the person you love, and years from now the size of your centerpieces probably won't matter to you at all. Pick the parts of the wedding that you care most about and spend your budgeted money there, and when it comes to the things that don't really matter to you, don't spend what you don't have to. 

Enjoy the Process
The very best thing that you can do for yourself is to remember to have fun and enjoy every moment of this time in your life. When you start to feel overwhelmed, remember the big picture. At the end of this entire process, you get to spend the rest of your life with the person you love most! 

If you find yourself stressing out, take a break. Even better, take a break with your fiance to remind each other why you are doing this in the first place. Don't sweat the small stuff either. If the napkins are only available in ivory instead of white, it's not going to ruin your day. Small things like what your guests will be wiping their mouths on really won't even be noticed by most people. Laugh it off and smile because, hey, you're getting married! Nothing should be able to ruin the joy of that.  

Having a few moments of stress here and there are probably unavoidable, but make a promise to yourself that when that happens you will take a step back, take a deep breath, remember the reason for it all, smile, and move on. Narrow Down Your Desired Wedding Dress Style

Wedding dress shopping can be fun and exciting, but it can also be a bit overwhelming. With so many exquisite styles to choose from, where in the world do you begin your search? Romantic

An Emergency Kit for the Wedding Day Helps to Keep Worries Away!

In last week's blog "Wedding Dress Stain Fixes (Just In Case)" we mentioned that you should have a wedding day emergency kit with you on your special day. This week Angelus Bridal has decided to go into a bit more detail about what that is and what you should pack inside it. The more prepared you are, the less you'll have to worry about, and the easier it will be to simply enjoy your wedding day! 

This wedding day emergency kit will be filled to the brim with all kinds of useful things, some of which will definitely come in handy, and others that you hopefully will not need at all. This is just piece of mind for you that no matter what crazy things the day may bring, you'll be ready for it all! You'll want to adjust this list to fit your personal needs, but here are some basics that should be included. 

• White cotton towels or cloths:  great for dabbing spills on a white dress
• Baby Powder:  can help remove some dress stains & keep them from spreading
• White chalk:  can work like baby powder or occasionally cover a small stain
• Stain Removal Pen or Wipes
• Cotton balls & cotton swabs:  also great for dabbing stains on a white dress
• Tape:  Double-sided, masking, or duct tape - these are a quick fix to a broken hem if there is no time left to sew it. 
• Super glue: same reason as the tape and can hold a loose button on. 
• Small sewing kit:  make sure you have thread in your dress color, the bridesmaids' dress colors, and the guys' suits.  
• Safety Pins: for fashion emergencies and also good to have in case boutonniere pins are missing
• Lighter:  both for candles and it can fix a fraying hem.

• Sunblock & bug spray:  if the ceremony is outdoors
• Feminine hygiene products:  in case you or one of the girls needs them.
• First aid kit
• Basic medicines:  pain reliever, allergy medicine, antacid...
• Gum & mints
• Bottled water
• Snacks:  In all of the hustle, you may not have time for a real meal.  Have granola bars or something similar handy for a quick bite. 
• Straws:  keeps your lipstick from smearing when you drink!

• Extra batteries
