10 Wedding Tips You May Not Have Thought About

There are so many things to think of when you are planning a wedding, it can be tough to cover all of your bases. For many things in life, practice makes perfect, but a wedding is most often a once-in-a-lifetime event. In this case, using the experience of women that have already lived through their own wedding is a great way to discover tips to make it all easier. Here are ten great ones that we've come across from some of the brides we've met at Angelus Bridal & Formals

  • Ask your photographer to get a shot of you from behind as you begin your walk down the aisle that captures the look on all of your guests' faces as they see you in your bridal gown for the first time.
  • Ask your caterer to pack a to-go box of food to set aside for you and your groom. Couples often forget to eat at their own reception and end the night famished.
  • Giving the DJ a list of "Do NOT Play" songs is just as important as a list of songs you want to hear. If there are any tunes you absolutely hate, let them know ahead of time.
  • Ask someone you trust to take care of "post-wedding" tasks, like transporting wedding gifts, collecting decorations, and returning rentals. You'll be too preoccupied (and possibly exhausted) at the end of your wedding to think about those things.
  • Don't wear a bra or socks while getting ready for wedding day. They can leave marks on your back and shoulders and around your ankles that may not go away before it's time to walk down the aisle.
  • Have a button-up shirt or robe to wear for wedding day hair and makeup. You won't have to ruin the beautician's beautiful work by pulling a shirt over your head.
  • Bring straws to drink out of while you are getting ready for the wedding. This will help to keep your lipstick from smudging.
  • Put hand lotion on right before the ceremony begins. This will help the wedding ring to slip on more easily.
  • Make sure your entire wedding party has something to eat before the wedding begins. It may be a long day and it could be quite a while before you all have another chance to eat.
  • If you have lots of gorgeous flowers leftover at the end of your wedding, make arrangements to donate them to a nursing home or hospital.

Those are a few of the best tips we have learned from the brides that have come through our South Florida bridal boutique. When it comes to finding the perfect wedding dress to wear on your special day, we've got quite a few tips of our own!

Which Wedding Dress Train Length Is Right For You?

There are lots of different elements that come together to make up the gorgeous wedding dresses that are available in our South Florida bridal boutique. The neckline, skirt, fabric, silhouette, and many other details completely change the way a gown looks on you. Today, Angelus Bridal & Formals is focusing on some of the different train lengths that are popular on our wedding dresses.

The train on a wedding dress is the long back portion of material that trails behind the bride. This particular feature is especially wonderful for making a stylish statement as you walk down the aisle to your future husband. Trains come in many different lengths, and the one that you choose will depend on the formality of the wedding, the venue, and your own personal style. Here are some of the most common train lengths.

Sweep Train
This can also be referred to as a Brush Train. It is one of the shorter trains, sometimes only barely sweeping the floor but trailing no more than 12 inches behind the dress. This length is good for less formal weddings and outdoor weddings where the bride does not want too much fabric dragging along the ground.

Court Train
Next in length we have the Court Train. It can trail anywhere between 1-3 feet behind the wedding dress.

Panel Train
This train is made from a panel of fabric that is attached to the back of the bridal gown, usually at the waist. Generally it is detachable, making it easy to have a beautiful train for the wedding ceremony and go without one at the reception. Since it can be removed, you can often customize the length.

Watteau Train
Offering a very elegant look, this type of wedding dress train is attached at the gown's shoulders and flows down the back. It usually falls loosely to the hem of the dress, but in some cases can be longer.

Chapel Train
A Chapel Train trails behind the gown anywhere between 3.5-4.5 feet and falls from the waist. It is a very traditional train length.

Cathedral Train
You can find both Semi-Cathedral, extending 4.5-5.5 feet behind the dress, and Cathedral, which trails 6.5-7.5 feet. This is generally worn for more formal weddings and makes a very dramatic statement. Once a train gets this long, you might consider having a train-bearer to help you down the aisle.

Monarch Train
This type of train can also be called a Royal Train, which makes sense, because this is the type of train you would expect to see at the wedding of a real live princess. It can be up to 12 feet long, and sometimes even longer!

There are lots of choices when it comes to the length of your wedding dress train, and there are also many lovely shorter bridal gowns available if you don't want to bother with a train at all. If your train is not detachable, make sure that someone at our South Florida wedding dress store shows you how to properly bustle it so that you aren't tripping over your train at the wedding reception. When you are ready to begin your own bridal gown search, give us a call at Angelus Bridal and we will help you figure out which of these train types is the best one for your wedding.

5 Ways To Make Dad Feel Special On Your Wedding Day

June is not only a big wedding month, but it also contains the holiday where you honor the first man you ever loved... your dad! Father's Day falls on Sunday, June 18 this year, and because of that, our South Florida bridal salon has a few great ideas to share about how you can give Dad a little extra attention on your wedding day.

Make him stand out.
Angelus Bridal can set you up with our in-house tuxedo rental people so that you can pick out a special vest, tie, or style of suit that makes your father stand apart from the groomsmen in the wedding. Not too much so that he upstages the groom, but just enough to show everyone he is one-of-a-kind. Another way that you can do this is to give the bride's & groom's fathers special boutonnieres that are slightly different than the other men's.

Give him a sentimental gift.
You can thank your dad for helping you get to this special day in your life by finding a sentimental gift that not only reminds him of raising you, but will remind him in the future of this special day. This could be a framed photo of the two of you from your childhood that has an extra slot to add a photo of you both from the wedding day. You could also give him a special necktie to wear with a sweet saying from you sewn into the back of it.

Plan a pre-wedding daddy/daughter day.
Before you head off to your grown-up married life (even if you haven't lived at home for years,) spend one day doing activities and visiting places that are fun for you and your father. Start at your favorite restaurant, go to a movie, feed the ducks at the city park, cheer on his favorite team at the ball park... you get the idea! It will leave you both with wonderful memories to cherish.

Take "First Look" photos with Dad
The "First Look" for a bride and groom is a well-known wedding day photo, but you don't have to limit yourself to that one. Many brides also choose to have their photographer capture the first time their bridesmaids see them in their wedding dress, all dolled up. This picture can be a special one to take with parents, too. It will be tough for Dad not to shed a tear when he first sees you in your bridal gown, right before he walks you down the aisle. What a special memory to capture!

The father/daughter dance.
In addition to getting to walk the bride down the aisle, another special wedding moment for a father is the father/daughter dance. Ask your dad's opinion on the song he would like to dance to, or if you trust his musical style enough, give him free reign to pick the song himself. If he's not shy, you could even sneak in a choreographed surprise for the wedding guests.

With a little bit of thought and planning, you can find all kinds of ways to make the people that you love feel special on your wedding day. It's a wonderful way to thank them for being a part of your life.

When you come into Angelus Bridal & Formals, it's our pleasure to make you look and feel like the beautiful bride-to-be that you are! During your appointment, you will have our undivided attention, and we will search our collections to find you the most amazing wedding dresses in South Florida to try on and fall in love with. When you are ready to find that exquisite bridal gown, give us a call at 954-943-7768

Helpful Tips For Your Wedding Dress Fitting

Even when exact measurements are taken by an expert, it is very rare that your wedding dress will fit perfectly on every part of your body. Every woman is built differently, so most likely at least a few alterations will be needed once your bridal gown arrives. Angelus Bridal & Formals has put together a few tips to make sure your wedding dress fitting appointment goes smoothly.

Buy the size your NEED...
not necessarily the size you hope to be by the wedding day. This tip pertains more to the wedding dress purchase rather than the fitting, but it's an important point to mention. Many brides think that if they order a bridal gown that is too small, it will encourage them to lose weight before the wedding. The problem is, if they don't, then they've got a dress that doesn't fit! A talented seamstress can work magic, but it's much simpler to make a dress smaller than to try to make it bigger. Adding too much fabric can drastically change the original look of the dress.

It may help to remind you that no one will be seeing that size tag except for you, so it really doesn't matter what the number on it says. Ignore the number and pick a gown that looks and feels good. Also, if your body isn't necessarily the same size all over, buy to fit the larger part. Once again, it's easier to take part of the dress in than to let it out.

Don't procrastinate.
As soon as your wedding dress arrives at our South Florida bridal salon, get your first fitting scheduled, even if it's a few weeks away. The most convenient times always book up first, so the earlier you book, the better chance you have of getting a time that fits into your schedule. You want the seamstress to have plenty of time to make your alterations without having to rush through it.

Always bring...
the shoes and undergarments that will be worn on the wedding day to every bridal gown fitting. The seamstress will be fashioning the adjustments to fit your body, and even the slightest change could make a huge difference. The size of the heel you have on affects where the hem will fall, and if you use a different bra than the one you had on at the fitting, the bodice of your wedding dress could end up too loose or too tight.

Move around in the gown.
Before any final alterations are made, move around in the gown to make sure it is comfortable. Walk, sit, even dance a little bit so that any problems with the fit can be addressed and you can be your most comfortable on the wedding day.

Bring a helper to the final fitting.
Wedding dresses often require a bit of assistance to get into, and your seamstress will know the best ways to get the gown on you and adjusted correctly. Bring someone with you to the final fitting so that they can be instructed on how to help you get ready on the wedding day. Also have someone show them how to properly bustle the dress for the wedding reception. Knowing how to do this will save a lot of time and unnecessary stress.

Use a seamstress you trust.
Angelus Bridal can connect you with one of our talented seamstresses that have been altering bridal gowns for many years and know exactly how to do it right. If you don't want to take our word for it, it may help you to look at reviews from past brides that they have worked with. Once you know that this is a person you can trust, you'll be much more comfortable leaving the alteration decisions to the experts. Our seamstresses know what works on each gown and what might not. You can give them your suggestions and know that they will be able to translate that into a wedding dress that fits as if it was designed specifically for your body.

After you have purchased your dream bridal gown at our wedding dress store in Pompano Beach, we will be happy to point you in the direction of one of our talented seamstresses. Angelus Bridal is a one-stop bridal shop, so we'll not only help you find the perfect bridal gown, but we can also help you with many of the other decisions that need to be made for your wedding day. On-site you can talk with an alteration specialist, photographer, cake designer, makeup artist, florist, and even find tuxedos for the men in the wedding.
