How To Shop For Bridesmaid Dresses You Will All Love

Finding the perfect bridesmaid dresses can be a difficult task. The more women that you have in your wedding party, the more body shapes you are trying to fit and the more personal styles you are trying to match. We not only carry the most beautiful bridesmaid dresses in South Florida, but we also have a few tips to offer so that you and your bridesmaids are more likely to agree on which dresses are the best. Keep these in mind when you plan your shopping trip to Angelus Bridal & Formals.

Matching Dresses - Yes or No?
You need to decide if you want all of your bridesmaids to wear the same gowns, or if you would prefer to use more than one dress style for your wedding party. Matching dresses will require a style that can be flattering to the different body types that will be wearing them. If you plan to let your girls wear different gowns, make sure that each one has some type of unifying element to tie them all together. This can be different shades of the same color, or possibly a certain length with different necklines.

Decide What You (The Bride) Like
This is your wedding, so the dresses that will be standing next to you at the altar should be something that you like. Finding gowns that are similar in style to your wedding dress, without looking exactly like it, is a good place to begin the search. This can give your entire bridal party a very unified overall look.

Do keep in mind, though, that you aren't the one that has to wear the dress. Something you absolutely love may not be a favorite of someone else. A great idea is to take your maid or matron of honor shopping with you first to pick out a few different gowns that you both like. This way, your bridesmaids will have choices to pick from when you all shop together, but all of the choices will be something you have already pre-approved.

Trust Your Bridesmaids
If someone is in your bridal party, they should be a good friend or close family member. This means that they love you and have your best interests in mind, so they won't pick a dress that they know you do not like. Since they will be the one wearing the gown all day and having to pose for tons of photos in it, take their opinions into consideration when you make the final bridesmaid dress decision.

Start Shopping Early
It's never too early to begin the bridesmaid gown search. Start out by flipping through wedding magazines together or sharing your favorite looks with each other online. This is a great way to get everyone excited, plus a wonderful way to figure out the styles that are most popular with your group.

The bridesmaid dresses will need to be ordered at least 6 months before the wedding date. This will allow enough time for the gown orders to come in and any necessary alterations to be scheduled and completed.

A Few Things To Consider
Before you make any final decisions on which dresses your bridesmaids will wear at your wedding, keep the following things in mind.

  • Pricing
You may be willing to spend a lot on your wedding, but your friends may not be able to. Be considerate of the amount you are asking them to spend, especially if the bridesmaid dress isn't the only cost they will have on your big day.
  • Comfort
This gown will need to be worn for a long time on the wedding day, and hopefully lots and lots of dancing will be done it it! You'll want to pick out something that will remain comfortable until late into the evening. During the shopping appointment, have your girls stand up, sit down, walk around, and even bust a few moves to see if that particular dress can last them all day and night long.
  • The Season and Time of Day
For example, if you're planning a beach wedding in mid-July, skip the long sleeves and long skirts. Match the dress style to the season you are getting married in. Also consider the time of day for formality, and if it will be cooler in the evening or your reception is indoors in air conditioning, you might want to add a jacket to the bridesmaids' wedding day look.
  • One Very Important Question...
If you were a bridesmaid in your wedding, would you want to wear the dress you picked out? The gown shouldn't just match the overall wedding look, but it should match the lovely ladies that will be wearing them. If you wouldn't want to be seen in it, don't make them wear it.

Angelus Bridal & Formals has a rainbow of colors and wide range of different styles to choose from when it comes to our bridesmaid dress collections. When you're ready to bring your bridal party in to find the perfect bridesmaid gowns, give our South Florida bridal boutique a call at 954-943-7768 to make an appointment. She made it so FUN and she knows what she is doing when it comes to what looks best on you. She helped me pick out my dream dress and I am beyond happy. The quality and prices of their dresses are unbeatable as I did lots of research before starting my visits. I also met the owner Coco! Thank you Coco for the great service as well, it was so great meeting you both and I can't wait to be back in town for my alterations."

"I went with my friend (the bride) to Angelus Bridal in early February 2017 and absolutely loved the level of service and care provided. Rhonda and Yoli were energetic, attentive, and so positive that it was infectious. They were so willing to go above and beyond for my friend who has special circumstances leading up to her wedding and I know she really appreciated that, as well. I highly recommend Angelus Bridal and the shopping experience I had there!"
~Katherine Hall, Google review

"Rhonda seriously has the best advice to give....look her up at this store, she instinctively knows what you will look best in. And she is sooooo much fun.....head and shoulders above any other store experience."
~Jaqueline, WeddingWire review

"Angelus Bridal was amazing! I was looking for a dress with very specific requirements, and their sales lady, Rhonda, was the only person who actually listened to my request. She went right to the point and gave me a selection of great dresses all along my wishes.
Ordering was very easy, and the dress arrived the day expected. They have always been very kind, friendly and lovely people! I will go back for any other special events that may come!
Thank you for making me a happy bride!

Don't Wait! When To Book Vendors For Your Wedding

A lot of different vendors will be involved in making your wedding day dreams a reality. Not only do you want to find ones that match your personality and style, but you want to book them early enough that you don't miss out on your favorites. Angelus Bridal has a few suggestions to help you get the vendors you want when they are needed in the planning stages.

Getting Started
It's never too early to start researching the different wedding vendors available in your area. Even if you won't be booking them right away, when it is time to start interviewing them, already having a list of the best ones will make things go faster. Find vendors whose work catches your eye, then check out their customer reviews on trusted sites like Wedding Wire, the Knot, or even Facebook.

Once you have a list of possibilities for a particular category, you'll want to find out if they have your wedding date available. If so, make an appointment to meet with them. If there is a good chemistry between them and you, then they are a good match.

When To Book Vendors
Some wedding vendors need to be sought out sooner than others, like photographers, who can only do one wedding a day. Others, such as cake bakers, can handle more than one wedding at a time, so you can seek them out a bit later in the planning stages. Here is a suggested timeline to get you started on that vendor search.

  • 9-12 months out
    • Wedding Planner - This should be the 1st vendor that you book. The sooner they are on board, the sooner the rest of the planning can be taken care of. A wedding planner will handle lots of tasks for you, plus keep you on schedule. They will even have suggestions on talented, trustworthy vendors to help you knock out the rest of this list.
    • Venue - Most venues can only handle one wedding at a time. You will want to book your dream wedding space before another bride and groom get it for the date you have chosen. Also, having this locked down can help with booking some of your other vendors.
    • Photographer/Videographer - The best photographers get booked the fastest, so if you have one in particular whose work you are in love with, book them for your date ASAP. Another benefit of booking them early is that many offer package deals that include the engagement photo session, giving you pictures to use for announcements, wedding websites, and save-the-dates. Not everyone uses videographers, so they don't book up as quickly, but your photographer may offer this service or have someone in mind they like to work with. If not, you can put off booking a videographer closer to 6 months out.
    • Entertainment - Depending on what type of entertainment you are looking for, booking times vary slightly. Bands often have their calendars booked at least a year in advance. That can be the case with DJs too, but many companies have a team of DJs available so that they can handle more than one wedding on a particular date.
    • Save-the-Dates - If you are hosting a destination wedding, have a lot of guests that will be traveling from afar, or are getting married on a holiday, save-the-dates give your guests extra time to make plans to attend. These should be in the mail at least 6 months before the wedding date, so start searching early enough to choose a style, gather addresses, address the envelopes, and get them in the mail.
  • 10 months out
    • Wedding Dress - Once you find your dream wedding dress at our bridal salon in South Florida, it will need to be ordered in your size, and then once it arrives you will want plenty of time in case alterations are necessary. The sooner you start looking for your bridal gown, the sooner this can all be done, and you won't have to do a lot of rushing around before the big day. We do have some gorgeous wedding dresses available in our clearance section that can be bought off-the-rack. If you get lucky enough to find the perfect gown there, it will cut down on the extra delivery time needed, but you will still want enough time to schedule alterations, plus find the shoes, jewelry, headpieces, and other bridal accessories.
  • 8-9 months out
    • Officiant - This is another vendor that can only be in one place at a time. Some do book multiple weddings on the same day, but in that case they will still need to have your wedding time available.
    • Baker - Bakers can handle multiple wedding cakes in a weekend, but for quality work, they do have their limits. This isn't one of the first vendors you need to book, but if you have a special bakery in mind, don't wait too long.
    • Caterer - If the venue you have booked provides catering, you can skip this step altogether. If not, start making tasting appointments around this time in planning so that you can narrow down the search and get your favorite booked while they are still available. Just like bakers, they can do more than one wedding, but they have their limits.
    • Florist - This is another area where the vendor isn't limited to just one wedding a day, but the best ones book up first. Be aware that if you are getting married during prime "wedding season" (generally mid-summer and fall) they will probably have lot of other couples looking at your date too.
  • 4-6 months out
    • Invitations - You will need time to find the perfect style and decide on your preferred wording. Once that's done, your wedding invitations should be addressed and ready to mail out about 2 months before the wedding date.
    • Rentals/Decor - Any items that you plan to rent for your wedding (tablecloths, centerpieces, etc...) should be booked around this time. If you will be ordering items through the mail, allow enough time for them to arrive, and also to be exchanged in case of a mistake.
    • Men's Attire - Around 4 months before the wedding, the groom, groomsmen, and fathers need to get measured for rental tuxedos or suits and get orders placed, or they need to find and purchase the clothing they will be wearing. Don't forget to make sure they all have proper shoes too.
    • Transportation - Make sure plans are set for how the two of you will be arriving to and leaving the wedding. If you need to shuttle guests to the ceremony or reception, get the transportation booked no later than 4 months before the wedding date.

How To Avoid Frizzy Wedding Day Hair

There is an ancient proverb that goes, "A misty morning does not signify a cloudy day, it signifies frizzy hair." If you have the type of hair that "puffs up" when it gets too humid outside, you might be more worried about frizzy hair than rain on your wedding day. August just happens to be Anti-Frizz Month, so it seemed like the perfect time for us at Angelus Bridal & Formals to offer a few tips on how to tame your hair for the wedding day.

What exactly is frizz?
"Frizz" is what happens when the cuticle layer of your hair is raised, which allows moisture to pass through it and swell the strands larger than they normally appear. Women with curly hair tend to have more trouble with this than those with straight hair because curly hair is naturally drier. Sometimes frizz is the result of hair damage from heat styling or chemical treatments. How can you remedy this if it happens to you? Try the following tips.

Find the right stylist.
The most important thing that you can do to assure the best wedding day hair is to find a hairstylist that knows how to handle your particular type of hair. Not all of them are experts at anti-frizz, and if this is a problem for you, not just any stylist will do.

An expert on your particular type of hair will be able to make suggestions on the best style for your wedding day to avoid any trouble the weather could cause. They can also give you advice on how to properly take care of your hair on a daily basis to keep the frizz to a minimum. You might also consider keeping your stylist on-hand throughout the wedding day to make touch-ups as necessary, or at least have some extra bobby pins and a small can of hair spray close by all night to tackle any "fly-away" hairs.

Proper Hair Care
The way that you wash, dry, and even comb your hair plays a big part in how it reacts to daily living. Using a sulfate-free, glycerin-packed shampoo is great for hydrating the hair from the inside out. When it comes to using conditioner, apply it from mid-shaft down to the ends. Putting conditioner directly on your roots can weigh the hair down.

Next, run a wide-tooth comb, not a brush, through damp hair while it is still conditioning. When you're ready to dry it, gently blot hair with a towel, never rub it. This raises the cuticles, which causes more frizz. Lastly, let your hair air-dry as much as possible before blowing it dry. The heat from the dryer can damage it too.

Condition Regularly
Hot oil treatments and a weekly hydrating mask go the extra mile for keeping your hair from being dry and frizzy. There are lots of products out there specifically made to keep hair looking smooth and shiny. Once again, your hairstylist should be able to give you some excellent advice based on your particular hair needs. Then, the two of you can decide on the perfect hairstyle for your special day.

Our bridal boutique in South Florida can help you find the bridal headpieces, hair accessories, and veils to complement that perfect frizz-free hairstyle. Once you've picked out your dream dress, one of our the consultants at Angelus Bridal can show you the accessories that bring your beautiful bridal gown up to to a whole new, exquisite level.
