10 Wedding Tips You May Not Have Thought About

There are so many things to think of when you are planning a wedding, it can be tough to cover all of your bases. For many things in life, practice makes perfect, but a wedding is most often a once-in-a-lifetime event. In this case, using the experience of women that have already lived through their own wedding is a great way to discover tips to make it all easier. Here are ten great ones that we've come across from some of the brides we've met at Angelus Bridal & Formals

  • Ask your photographer to get a shot of you from behind as you begin your walk down the aisle that captures the look on all of your guests' faces as they see you in your bridal gown for the first time.
  • Ask your caterer to pack a to-go box of food to set aside for you and your groom. Couples often forget to eat at their own reception and end the night famished.
  • Giving the DJ a list of "Do NOT Play" songs is just as important as a list of songs you want to hear. If there are any tunes you absolutely hate, let them know ahead of time.
  • Ask someone you trust to take care of "post-wedding" tasks, like transporting wedding gifts, collecting decorations, and returning rentals. You'll be too preoccupied (and possibly exhausted) at the end of your wedding to think about those things.
  • Don't wear a bra or socks while getting ready for wedding day. They can leave marks on your back and shoulders and around your ankles that may not go away before it's time to walk down the aisle.
  • Have a button-up shirt or robe to wear for wedding day hair and makeup. You won't have to ruin the beautician's beautiful work by pulling a shirt over your head.
  • Bring straws to drink out of while you are getting ready for the wedding. This will help to keep your lipstick from smudging.
  • Put hand lotion on right before the ceremony begins. This will help the wedding ring to slip on more easily.
  • Make sure your entire wedding party has something to eat before the wedding begins. It may be a long day and it could be quite a while before you all have another chance to eat.
  • If you have lots of gorgeous flowers leftover at the end of your wedding, make arrangements to donate them to a nursing home or hospital.

Those are a few of the best tips we have learned from the brides that have come through our South Florida bridal boutique. When it comes to finding the perfect wedding dress to wear on your special day, we've got quite a few tips of our own!

The talented and knowledgeable consultants in our Pompano Beach wedding dress store have the experience and fashion sense that help put women into the best gowns for their style and shape. Tips For Handling The Toasts At Your Wedding

Once the "I do's" are done and the reception has started, that's when the toasts generally begin. There are a few people that should be heard from and some important things that need to be said. This can cause some awkward moments if you don't have a plan, so Angelus Bridal & Formals put together a few tips so everything can go as smoothly as possible.

BRIDE & GROOM TOASTS
It is important to thank all of your guests for joining you on this very special day. Plan a point during the reception when you and your groom can do this. Here are a few tips to keep in mind.

  • Think ahead: It is perfectly okay to speak from the heart with whatever comes to mind in the moment, but it's wise to have an idea of what you will say ahead of time. Think about the important things you don't want to forget to mention, and come up with a good closing line.
  • Keep it short & sweet: Even if there is a lot that you want to say, any speech longer than 3-5 minutes may lose your audience's attention.
  • Speak clearly: Don't talk too quickly, and make sure that you speak loud enough so that everyone can hear you.

WEDDING PARTY TOASTS
Traditionally, there are certain people that are expected to say a few words in honor of the bride & groom. You will want to give them a few guidelines so that the toasts don't get embarrassing or run too long.

  • Choose who will toast: It is acceptable for you to pick and choose who you will allow to give a toast at your wedding. This way you can monitor how many take place and how long they will last. Ask first, and don't force anyone to speak that is not comfortable doing so. Generally, toasts are expected from the best man, the maid/matron of honor, and the couple's parents.
  • Give them a time limit: Even if they are great at entertaining a crowd, lots of long-winded speeches may make your guests antsy. Ask them to keep it under 5 minutes.
  • Schedule the toasts: The time that toasts are expected to happen should be included when you plan your wedding day timeline. If there are quite a few, space them out throughout the day so they don't last too long all at once. Someone could propose a toast at the cocktail hour, another before dinner, and others during dinner or before dancing.
  • Know it's okay to say "no thank you": If you are worried about toasts taking up too much time during your reception, it's okay to request that those other than the people listed above refrain from toasting. You can do this by letting the DJ know that no one should be given the microphone without your permission. Also, if a person has been drinking heavily or is prone to telling inappropriate stories, you definitely do not want them to have unnecessary attention.

Hopefully the tips above can help you to plan a wedding that runs smoothly and is pleasant for everyone involved. Angelus Bridal has had the pleasure of knowing many brides over the years, and we have learned a few things from their experiences. Our own personal experience with wedding fashion has made us experts on that particular subject. If you are looking for your dream wedding dress, fashionable bridesmaid dresses, or something beautiful for your mother to wear, our South Florida bridal salon would love to help you out.

The Most Important Wedding Dress Photographs to Capture

A picture is worth a thousand words, and on your wedding day, there's a lot to be "said." Your wedding dress is a big chapter in the story that those photos will tell. The bridal gown that you choose from our South Florida bridal boutique will feature many fabulous details that can be made even more amazing with the help of a talented photographer's eye.

The pictures taken of your Angelus Bridal wedding dress can be magical, and it will help your photographer out a lot if you let them know the shots that you simply have to have. Here are a few ideas from some of our favorite wedding dress pictures.

Back of the Dress

It's impossible for you to enjoy the fabulous back of your bridal gown while you are wearing it, so the memories captured by your photographer are the only way to truly admire your look from behind. The still shots are beautiful, but we especially love pictures of that walk down the aisle. Bring the groom in on some of these photos and have him peeking over your shoulder while the camera captures the back of your dress.

Tiniest Details

What made you fall in love with your wedding dress in the first place? The long row of delicate buttons down the back, the elegant lace details around the hem, the intricate beading, or possibly those flowing layers of the skirt. Let the photographer know what your favorite parts of the gown are and let them highlight those.

The Dress on its Own

There is both a sense of the calm before the storm and excited anticipation in the photographs that we have seen of a lone dress on a hanger before the bride steps into it. A great photographer can make this shot look like a work of art.

Accessories

Document all of those lovely accessories that helped to bring your wedding day look to life. This includes headpieces, veils, shoes, jewelry, and maybe even your something old-new-borrowed-blue. The wedding dress can make a lovely backdrop to position all of these accessories on. Take precautions if you will be including your bridal bouquet in these pictures. Don't let the water from the stems or any loose petals stain your dress.

Skirt or Train

If you have chosen a ball gown with a gigantic skirt, or a dress with a long, cascading train, accentuate all of that extra, glorious fabric. Spread it out to as full as it can possibly get. Surround yourself with it.

The Gown in Action

Many of our wedding dresses are designed to elegantly move along with you. Make sure that you get a few action shots of your gown on the dance floor, showing off a life of its own. If you have a very large veil, take a few shots of it flowing in the wind, or hiding a kiss behind that sheer fabric between you and your groom.

Silhouette

The shape of your bridal gown can be as breathtaking as the fabric and details. Take advantage of a beautiful sunset to outline the gorgeous silhouette of your wedding dress, or stand in front of a large window, putting you in shadow while highlighting the outline of your gown.

Those are just a few of the many exquisite photographs that can be taken to show off that beautiful bridal gown that you found in our South Florida wedding dress store. After the wedding, all of us at Angelus Bridal & Formals would love to see the pictures that you had taken! Share them with us on our social media pages.

Angelus Bridal & Formals' owner, Coco Abadi, has been in the bridal business since 1992, giving him lots of experience when it comes to knowing what a bride wants. A perfect example of this is the fact that in 1996, Coco created and patented the "Flattering Me" strapless bra. He saw a need, and he was able to solve the problem beautifully.

Our bridal consultants are also incredibly knowledgeable when it comes to helping brides find the best gown for them. The consultants are all trained to educate every customer about all aspects of shopping for their special dress. They aren't there simply to make a sale. Their desire is to make your wedding fashion dream come true. The patience, empathy, and individualized attention that they provide make the entire shopping process more enjoyable.

Appointments are highly recommended when you visit our South Florida bridal salon. This allows us to give you our undivided attention because we have set time aside specifically for you. 5 Helpful Tips for Choosing Your Wedding Rings

Buying a wedding dress in South Florida will not be the only fashion purchase that you will need to make for your wedding. There is one very important piece of jewelry that you and your future husband will need to buy. Angelus Bridal & Formals has a few helpful tips to make the search a little bit easier.

Decide on a ring budget.

You will wear your wedding band "til death do us part," so this is one area that you shouldn't skimp. When you are planning your wedding budget, make a place in it to include your wedding bands. Some suggest that you should set aside 2-month's salary for an engagement ring, and 1-month's salary for the bands. If this simply isn't possible for you right now, decide on a simpler ring that you love the look of and plan to upgrade on a special anniversary in the future.

Shop early.

Much like wedding dresses, many wedding bands must be special ordered once you choose your favorite. If you want to have something personal engraved inside the band, that will take some time too. This is one item that you know you absolutely have to have, so you can begin looking for rings right away, but don't wait much later than 6 months before the wedding day to take care of this task.

Shop together.

It is always nice when a bride and groom have rings that complement each other. Make your search for the perfect wedding bands a special activity that you can do together. Start your shopping at the store where the engagement ring was purchased. They may offer you a discount.

Choose a ring material.

You will want to pick out a metal that matches, or at least works with, your engagement ring. Different metals wear differently over time also. The following metals are popular choices for wedding jewelry and can be re-sized should the need arise.

  • Gold: Available in white, yellow, or rose, gold is a popular metal for wedding jewelry. Buffing your ring will keep it shiny and smooth.
  • Sterling Silver: This is the most affordable of the precious metals. It is actually pure silver mixed with copper to make it more durable, but it can still get scratched easily.
  • Platinum: While extremely durable, it will wear and scratch over time. A polishing by a jeweler will remove blemishes.
  • Silver & Gold: If you cannot decide, or if you wear a lot of different colors of jewelry on a regular basis, a ring with the combination of these two is the perfect solution.

Consider comfort and lifestyle.

As we already mentioned, you will be wearing these rings on a daily basis for many years to come. If you are an extremely active person and worried about a bulky ring getting knocked around a lot, a simpler band may be the best choice for you. Try on lots of different styles so that you get an idea of how comfortable it will be on your hand.

Angelus Bridal & Formals wants every bit of your wedding planning process to be an enjoyable and memorable occasion. When you visit our South Florida bridal boutique, we will pamper and spoil you while you search for your dream wedding dress. Follow the tips above for finding your wedding bands and that task should go wonderfully too.

Wedding Dress Stain Tips & Quick-Fixes

You want everything to go perfectly on your wedding day. The best way to assure that this happens is to prepare for any possible mishaps before they have a chance to happen. Our South Florida bridal store has heard a few stories about wedding dresses that end up having something spilled on them while the bride is getting ready, and others about makeup smudges from all those well-wishing hugs and kisses from guests.

There are some precautions that you can take to avoid stains altogether, and also a few things that you can have stashed in your emergency kit in case the unthinkable happens. Angelus Bridal & Formals wants you to be prepared so that a surprise stain is only a minor inconvenience rather than a major disaster.

Preventing stains ahead of time.

Before the wedding day, keep your wedding dress in the closet, in its bag, away from everyone. The less you take it out, the less likely someone's dirty hands have a chance to smudge it. Only take it out if absolutely necessary. Make sure your hands are clean and there is nothing nearby to knock over and spill. If you are trying it on, avoid sitting down. Put it safely away as quickly as possible when you are done.

When you are picking out your menu for the reception, if you are worried about stains on your gown, avoid choosing messy foods and foods that are heavily sauced. White wines also do a lot less damage than reds.

Putting on your bridal gown should be one of the very last things that you do when getting ready on the wedding day. Eat and have your coffee, juice, or any other beverage other than water while you are still wearing your plain clothes. It won't hurt anything if you spill on those.

Quick fixes for stains.

If you happen to get something on your wedding dress before or during the wedding, having a few quick-fix tricks waiting in your dressing room can save the day. First of all, if the stain is small and inconspicuous, it's probably best to leave it alone and let the professionals handle it after the wedding.

In your emergency kit, be sure to pack the following items:

  • white cotton towels
  • white chalk (or a similar color to your dress)
  • baby powder
  • stain removal pen
  • rubbing alcohol
  • cotton swabs
  • cotton balls
  • bar of white soap

Always blot a stain, never rub. Rubbing can cause it to spread or go deeper into the fabric. Use a white towel to soak up what you can. If the stain is oil-based rather than water soluble, first sprinkle it with talcum powder to soak up the oil, then blot it with the white cloth.

If you must use any type of cleaning solution on the material, first test a small spot on the underside of the hem to make sure the stain remover will not harm the dress.

Spot-treat beginning at the edges of the stain and work your way in. This will help to keep it from spreading. Cotton swabs are wonderful for applying only a small amount of cleaning solution at a time.

Chalk can sometimes cover up a small stain, and, like the baby powder, it can help to absorb oily stains. Rubbing alcohol is also helpful in tackling oily food or grease.

Like we mentioned earlier, a little prevention goes a long way. Keep your wedding dress safe before you absolutely have to put it on, and plan ahead for any possibility so you are ready if it happens. Angelus Bridal & Formals wants our brides to to be their very happiest on the wedding day. We will do everything that we can to help you be prepared.

6 Tips for Choosing Your Perfect Wedding Colors

A major decision that you will make while planning your wedding is the color scheme. This color will be featured in many different areas throughout the event, so you want to make sure that you pick one that both of you love. The flowers, the table decor, the bridesmaid dresses... there are a multitude of places to highlight a special color.

With the rainbow of color combinations possible, deciding on one could seem like an overwhelming task. Here are a few tips from Angelus Bridal & Formals to make it easier for you.

Turn to your favorites.

Nearly everyone has a favorite color. If you and your future spouse have the same favorite color, then this could be a very simple decision. If you need to branch out beyond your main favorite color, think about ones that inspire you or make you feel a certain way.

Use color to set a mood.

Colors can evoke different feelings. This is a great way to set the mood for the type of wedding you want to have. Soft pastels bring on a dreamy, romantic tone, while bright, vibrant colors may feel more like a party. If your wedding will bring the outdoors inside, then earthy, natural colors will work well.

Consider seasonal hues.

If flowers will be a large part of your wedding decor, lean toward using colors inspired by the flowers that are in season when you are getting married. Look at other seasonal themes for inspiration too. Fall weddings could feature the colors of pumpkins and changing leaves, or a Christmas wedding might be done in reds and greens or silver & gold.

Take cues from the venue.

The venue that you book for your ceremony and reception should have some influence on the colors that you choose. You don't want to clash with the decor that is already set in the room. If the place has a very strong color theme of its own, look for colors that work well with them.

Be inspired by other weddings.

Current wedding trends are wonderful for inspiring ideas. Browse through other weddings online and in magazines. Notice which ones you gravitate towards. If all of your favorites have the same general color scheme, then that may be the color you should go with.

Turn to the color wheel.

Once you've decided on your main color, pull out that color wheel that you learned all about in elementary school. This is a great way to see which accent colors work well together. Play with a few combinations before setting your heart on only one.

One place in particular that your wedding color will most likely be featured is on your bridesmaids. Our South Florida bridesmaid dress store is filled with gorgeous gowns in a wide variety of beautiful colors. Let us know what you have in mind and we will find the perfect dresses to compliment your wedding. Angelus Bridal & Formals has worked with every color imaginable, and we know exactly how to find the right dresses for you.

14 Fun Facts for National Weddings Month

February is National Weddings Month, so the best wedding dress store in South Florida decided this was an excellent time to share a few fun wedding facts with everyone.  This Sunday is Valentine's Day, so "14" seemed like a lovely number to shoot for.  We may be a bit partial to the more fashionable facts here at Angelus Bridal & Formals, but there are some other subjects tossed in there too.

1.  Before 1840, brides simply wore their best dress to get married in.  Queen Victoria's wedding gown began the Western world's trend of brides wearing white.

2. This wasn't a new trend for Japan. Their brides traditionally wore white already. Then they often would change to a colored dress, usually red, at some point during the festivities.

3. Brides in Asia are known to wear a robe with cranes embroidered on it. These symbolize fidelity for the length of the marriage.

4. The tradition of wearing a veil with your bridal gown came about in ancient Greek and Roman times because they believed that it protected the bride from evil spirits.

5. The very first diamond engagement ring was commissioned by Archduke Maximillian of Austria in 1477 for Mary of Burgundy.

6. A sapphire in a wedding ring represents marital happiness.

7. An aquamarine ring is symbolic of marital harmony and said to ensure a long, happy marriage.

8. The reason that the "ring finger" on your left hand was chosen to place your engagement and wedding rings on is because it was once believed that the vein in that particular finger led directly to your heart.

9. In Sweden, a bride places a silver coin from her father and a gold coin from her mother in each shoe.  This is said to ensure that she will never do without.

10. If you choose to wear gloves as part of your wedding attire, take a tip from Greek culture and tuck a sugar cube into it.  This will sweeten your union.

11. Beware if you are wishing for good luck on your wedding day from an Egyptian woman.  They pinch the bride to give her good luck!

12. The wedding cake tradition stems from ancient Romans breaking a loaf of bread over the bride's head for fertility.  Hopefully your groom knows you well enough to know if it's okay to "smash" the cake at you, or wisely skip doing that.

13. The word "honeymoon" originated from an ancient Norse tradition.  Couples would go into hiding after the wedding and a member of their family would bring them a cup of honey wine for 30 days (or one moon.)

14. The two busiest days for wedding ceremonies in Las Vegas are the upcoming Valentine's Day and New Year's Eve.

Lots of engagements are inspired this time of year due to Valentine's Day.  If you are one of the lucky ladies that find yourself the recipient of this incredible gift, you will want to give Angelus Bridal & Formals a call soon to make your shopping appointment.  We will help you find the best wedding dress in South Florida to accentuate your beauty and style.

Romantic Wedding Ideas

Valentine's Day is near, love is in the air, and romance is on our minds.  Weddings can convey whatever type of feel that best fits you as a couple.  Our South Florida bridal salon has witnessed everything from quirky & fun to elegant & high-brow.  Today, in honor of the upcoming holiday, Angelus Bridal & Formals would like to share a few romantic wedding ideas for your ceremony and reception.

Candles

The soft glow of candles in a lowly lit room lends to a very romantic feel in an environment. They work perfectly with flowers or in place of them altogether.   Use them as centerpieces, on wall ledges, even along the aisle or around the dance floor.

Twinkle Lights

These give you the glow of a candle, but since they are not actual flames, can be placed in many more places.  Strung within tulle strands draped over the dance floor makes it look like the stars are out above everyone.  Underneath the head table behind a sheer table cover makes it look as if fairies have graced your reception for a fairy tale feel.

Flower Petals

Full blooms can get pricey, but sprinkling rose petals everywhere brings both the scent of flowers and the beauty.  Petals tend to give an ethereal feel to the wedding decor.

Quotes

A picture is worth a thousand words, but sometimes you don't need that many.  Placing a few sweet quotes in various places around the wedding can put sweet thoughts in your guests' minds.

Soft Colors

Pastels seem to be the colors that give off a romantic presence when used.  Light and airy shades such as pinks, light blues, and lilacs are very dreamy. Your bridesmaid dresses can reflect the feel that you are going for, as well as your our own bridal gown.

Your Wedding Dress

Romantic wedding gowns generally have a flowing look and feel to them.  Lace is an intricate and romantic fabric.  If you are going for more of a fairy tale type of romance, then a ball gown is absolutely perfect.  Possibly add flowers to your hair or pearls to your accessories.

These are only a few of the amazing things that you can do to host a romantic wedding.  A good way to set the entire style of how you will be decorating your wedding is to begin by choosing a wedding dress.  Once you find "the one," the rest of your decisions may just fall into place.  Angelus Bridal & Formals has an entire store full of dresses that will make you feel romantic, sexy, playful, elegant... however you want to appear, we will help you find the perfect dress for that.
