Tips to Gracefully Handle Rain on Your Wedding Day

According to the old saying, "April showers bring May flowers," a spring bride shouldn't be too surprised if it happens to rain on her wedding day. No one wants that to happen, but in reality, that is always a possibility any time of the year. 

If you are prepared for it ahead of time, rain does not have to put a damper on your big day. Angelus Bridal & Formals has a few tips to help you make it through a rainy wedding day like a pro! 

Remain Calm
First and foremost, if a few drops of rain, or even a downpour, fall on your wedding day, don't let it cause you any stress. Nature happens. If it makes you feel better, rain is actually supposed to bring good luck to your special day. It symbolizes fertility for a fruitful marriage and cleansing, washing away your old single life so you can enter your new married life. Getting upset isn't going to make the rain stop, but the plans you've made ahead of time will get you through the situation beautifully. 

Stay Dry
Before the ceremony, take precautions to keep everyone's wedding fashions dry. Keep everything zipped up tightly in garment bags until you arrive at your destination to get ready. Ladies, you will want to take extra care to keep long gowns up off of the ground. Fellas, if you are not getting dressed at the ceremony venue, you may want to do a quick change in the bathroom at the wedding site to make sure you don't end up with any splash spots on your suit from outside puddles. 

If you need to go outside for photos after the rain has stopped, lay down a tarp or something similar to walk on. Your photographer should be creative enough to keep it out of the pictures. 

Have a Plan
Backup plans are made in the hopes that they never need to be used, but they are wonderful things to have "just in case." Should you need it, you'll be thrilled that you took the time to come up with it. This will allow you to keep the celebration going, rain or shine. 

For outdoor weddings, always have an indoor spot reserved in case of inclement weather, or possibly rent a tent to keep the party outside. Today you can rent tents that have elegant walls with windows, and they are more like a sheltered oasis than simply something to cover your head. Even if the rain stays away, a tent can still be a nice touch in case anyone wants to get out of the sun. 

Umbrella Shop
Find some adorable umbrellas that match your wedding colors or theme, and make sure that you have enough for everyone in your wedding party. If the weather forecast says that there is a very strong chance of rain on your wedding day, you may even want to have enough umbrellas for your guests to use too. They will make great favors and can be returned if you don't need to use them as long as the tags have not been removed. 

Have Fun With It! 
Remember that old saying, "Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain!" Take this unfortunate event and roll with it. Instead of getting mad and ruining this otherwise beautiful day, choose to make a few special memories that wouldn't be possible without the rain.

Which Wedding Dress Train Length Is Right For You?

There are lots of different elements that come together to make up the gorgeous wedding dresses that are available in our South Florida bridal boutique. The neckline, skirt, fabric, silhouette, and many other details completely change the way a gown looks on you. Today, Angelus Bridal & Formals is focusing on some of the different train lengths that are popular on our wedding dresses. 

The train on a wedding dress is the long back portion of material that trails behind the bride. This particular feature is especially wonderful for making a stylish statement as you walk down the aisle to your future husband. Trains come in many different lengths, and the one that you choose will depend on the formality of the wedding, the venue, and your own personal style. Here are some of the most common train lengths. 

Sweep Train
This can also be referred to as a Brush Train. It is one of the shorter trains, sometimes only barely sweeping the floor but trailing no more than 12 inches behind the dress. This length is good for less formal weddings and outdoor weddings where the bride does not want too much fabric dragging along the ground.   

Court Train
Next in length we have the Court Train. It can trail anywhere between 1-3 feet behind the wedding dress.  

Panel Train
This train is made from a panel of fabric that is attached to the back of the bridal gown, usually at the waist. Generally it is detachable, making it easy to have a beautiful train for the wedding ceremony and go without one at the reception. Since it can be removed, you can often customize the length.  

Watteau Train
Offering a very elegant look, this type of wedding dress train is attached at the gown's shoulders and flows down the back. It usually falls loosely to the hem of the dress, but in some cases can be longer.  

Chapel Train
A Chapel Train trails behind the gown anywhere between 3.5-4.5 feet and falls from the waist. It is a very traditional train length.  

Cathedral Train
You can find both Semi-Cathedral, extending 4.5-5.5 feet behind the dress, and Cathedral, which trails 6.5-7.5 feet. This is generally worn for more formal weddings and makes a very dramatic statement. Once a train gets this long, you might consider having a train-bearer to help you down the aisle.  

Monarch Train 
This type of train can also be called a Royal Train, which makes sense, because this is the type of train you would expect to see at the wedding of a real live princess. It can be up to 12 feet long, and sometimes even longer!   

There are lots of choices when it comes to the length of your wedding dress train, and there are also many lovely shorter bridal gowns available if you don't want to bother with a train at all. What You Should Bring To Your Wedding Dress Shopping Appointment

Last week our blog told you How To Prepare For Your Wedding Dress Shopping Appointment, and today we are focusing on the items that you should bring with you to our South Florida Bridal Salon when it is time for that appointment. It's a simple list, but these few things can make a big difference in finding your dream wedding dress. 

Examples of What You Like
When you come to Angelus Bridal, bringing along a few photos of the bridal gowns that capture your attention the most will give us a good idea of what your wedding style is. This will make it easier to begin the search with wedding dresses that reflect the look you are desiring. 

If you have swatches of your wedding colors, or even some of your wedding decorating plans, go ahead and bring those with you too. Your entire wedding vision just may give our talented consultants the perfect idea of a gown that matches it beautifully. 

Special Wedding Day Items
Most of the time brides find their wedding dress first, and then they add matching accessory items after that. Sometimes, however, a bride already has a few items that she wants to include in her wedding day fashion before she begins shopping. Examples would be an heirloom veil or piece of jewelry that has been passed down in the family, or a fabulous pair of shoes that you fell in love with at first sight and simply need to wear on your wedding day. 

If these items are already in your possession, bring them to the appointment with you. This will give you a chance to see how well they work with the different bridal gowns that you will be trying on. These items may also inspire your consultant to pull some specific wedding dresses for you to try on. 

Supportive Friends
Everyone has an opinion, but in the case of your bridal gown, your opinion is the most important. Choose the people that come along with you on your shopping trip wisely. A small group of supportive friends that know your style well and have your best interests at heart can be very helpful. Avoid bringing along anyone that loves to cause drama and never has anything nice to say. 

Proper Undergarments
Nude-colored undergarments work best for trying on our dresses. Remember that a consultant will probably be in the dressing room with you, since many bridal gowns aren't easy to get into alone. Wear underwear that you are comfortable wearing in front of them.

Fixing Stains on Your Wedding Dress

No matter how careful you are, there is always the chance that something will get knocked over or spilled and your wedding dress will get splashed. You cannot always stop accidents from happening, but you can prepare for them ahead of time so that they don't put a damper on your day. Once you find the most beautiful wedding dress in South Florida, you will want to make sure it remains looking its best throughout the entire wedding day.

Having a wedding day emergency kit with you at all times is an excellent way to prepare for all types of situations that may arise. Angelus Bridal & Formals has a few tips for how to use your emergency kit items to keep stains from setting into your bridal gown. Always check the cleaning instructions on the dress that are specific to the material it is made from, and always test an inconspicuous area first to make sure the fix won't stain the dress further.  

Lipstick Stains
Dabbing some petroleum jelly onto the stain may help to dissolve it. You can also try dabbing it with a stain removal wipe. (With all stains, ALWAYS dab, NEVER rub!) Any remaining residue can be covered up with chalk or baby powder.

Makeup Stains  
For foundation or other makeup stains, try absorbing the product by rubbing it with chalk. Let it sit for a few moments, then whisk away the chalk dust. Baby powder or baking powder may work too, but they are less absorbent than chalk. 

Red Wine Stains
Use a white towel to absorb as much of the wine as possible. After that, gently dab the stain from underneath the gown with a white towel soaked in cold water, beginning at the edges of the stain and moving inward. You may use a dab of dishwashing soap if the stain is particularly tough.  

Tea or Coffee Stains
A dot of clear liquid soap on a white cloth can help to remove these if gently dabbed from underneath the fabric. Use as little water as possible when trying to remove the stain. Club soda may also be helpful at removing the spilled liquid.  

Dirt Stains
You can use the same techniques as described for tea and coffee above. 

Water Stains
Whether it is rain or a spilled glass of water, this liquid that generally helps to remove stains can also damage the delicate material of your wedding dress. If there is time, air-drying is the best thing for water on a bridal gown. A hair dryer set on low can also be used, but be sure to keep it at least 6 inches away from the dress, and keep it moving so that the heat is not concentrated on one area for too long. 



Be Prepared
There are other ways to treat many of the stains above, but we have included things that should be easy to find at your wedding with short notice. Make sure your wedding day emergency kit has all of these items, or know where on the premises that you can locate them quickly. Wedding Dress Stain Tips & Quick-Fixes

You want everything to go perfectly on your wedding day. The best way to assure that this happens is to prepare for any possible mishaps before they have a chance to happen. Our South Florida bridal store has heard a few stories about wedding dresses that end up having something spilled on them while the bride is getting ready, and others about makeup smudges from all those well-wishing hugs and kisses from guests. 

There are some precautions that you can take to avoid stains altogether, and also a few things that you can have stashed in your emergency kit in case the unthinkable happens. Angelus Bridal & Formals wants you to be prepared so that a surprise stain is only a minor inconvenience rather than a major disaster. 

Preventing stains ahead of time.

Before the wedding day, keep your wedding dress in the closet, in its bag, away from everyone. The less you take it out, the less likely someone's dirty hands have a chance to smudge it. Only take it out if absolutely necessary. Make sure your hands are clean and there is nothing nearby to knock over and spill. If you are trying it on, avoid sitting down. Put it safely away as quickly as possible when you are done. 

When you are picking out your menu for the reception, if you are worried about stains on your gown, avoid choosing messy foods and foods that are heavily sauced. White wines also do a lot less damage than reds. 

Putting on your bridal gown should be one of the very last things that you do when getting ready on the wedding day. Eat and have your coffee, juice, or any other beverage other than water while you are still wearing your plain clothes. It won't hurt anything if you spill on those. 

Quick fixes for stains.

If you happen to get something on your wedding dress before or during the wedding, having a few quick-fix tricks waiting in your dressing room can save the day. First of all, if the stain is small and inconspicuous, it's probably best to leave it alone and let the professionals handle it after the wedding. 

In your emergency kit, be sure to pack the following items:

• white cotton towels
• white chalk (or a similar color to your dress)
• baby powder
• stain removal pen
• rubbing alcohol
• cotton swabs
• cotton balls
• bar of white soap

Always blot a stain, never rub. Rubbing can cause it to spread or go deeper into the fabric. Use a white towel to soak up what you can. If the stain is oil-based rather than water soluble, first sprinkle it with talcum powder to soak up the oil, then blot it with the white cloth. 

If you must use any type of cleaning solution on the material, first test a small spot on the underside of the hem to make sure the stain remover will not harm the dress. 

Spot-treat beginning at the edges of the stain and work your way in. This will help to keep it from spreading. Cotton swabs are wonderful for applying only a small amount of cleaning solution at a time.

Chalk can sometimes cover up a small stain, and, like the baby powder, it can help to absorb oily stains. Rubbing alcohol is also helpful in tackling oily food or grease.    

Like we mentioned earlier, a little prevention goes a long way. Keep your wedding dress safe before you absolutely have to put it on, and plan ahead for any possibility so you are ready if it happens. 3 Charities to Donate Your Wedding Dress To

Last week we wrote about 5 things to do with your bridal gown after the wedding.  The last of these tips was to donate your wedding gown to a charity or organization, but we felt that there was too much information to only mention it.  This week's blog from the most trusted bridal salon in South Florida goes into more details about the places that will accept your wedding dress and help you to pass along the joy that the dress gave you to someone else.

Wish Upon A Wedding

This group was founded by a wedding planner that believes everyone deserves the chance to marry their soul mate, even if life has thrown tough challenges their way that might make planning a wedding difficult.  This nonprofit organization grants weddings and vow renewals for couples facing serious illness or a life-altering circumstance.  They are partnered with Brides for a Cause, who not only provides this group with wedding dresses, but also 50% of the proceeds from the donated dresses they sell on their own.  Chapters are currently located in only a few towns across the country, but they grant wishes in all 50 states.  


Brides Across America
Every year this group gives away over 2.000 wedding dresses to military brides.  Their mission is to inspire and express gratitude and appreciation for the service men and women serving in the armed forces.  Deployments, financial hardships, and other challenges that are unique to military families can make planning a dream wedding difficult.  Events are held 2 times a year, generally near Independence Day and Veteran's Day, to offer free dresses to qualifying military brides.    


Angel Gowns Florida
This ministry was created to make very special gowns for newborns who pass away in the hospital.  It may seem like a small comfort, but it means a great deal to the parents to have this special piece of clothing for family visitation and photographs to remember their child by.  The baby gowns are created from donated wedding dresses.  These are not for sale, but given as a gift to the grieving families.  If you choose to donate, you will receive a photo of the child's gown that is made from your donation.  

  


There are organizations all over the country that will accept gently used wedding dresses to brighten a woman's special day.  You should be able to find one close to you, no matter where you live.  The national organizations above can probably help you with your search too.

5 Things To Do With Your Bridal Gown After the Wedding

Once you find your dream wedding dress at the best bridal gown store in South Florida, you will be counting down the days until you get to walk down the aisle in it.  You have been meticulously taking care of it up until that day, but what do you do with it after your wedding?  Once you get back from that honeymoon, it's time to make a decision.  Here are a few ideas from Angelus Bridal & Formals that may help you out.  

Get the wedding dress professionally cleaned.

First of all, do not wait too long to get your wedding dress cleaned.  Oils from your body and anything else that may have gotten on it could permanently stain the material if not taken care of quickly.  Bridal gowns are very delicate, and attempting to clean one yourself could damage the dress beyond repair.  Your best bet is to take it to a dry cleaner.  Find a professional that has experience with handling these types of dresses and knows exactly how to clean them to keep then looking like new.
